I really enjoyed the sequence of the relationship between Michael and Pauline with the exact details of a desperate couple. And I think Anne Tyler was extraordinary in naming of each chapter. The story is soft, straight and the descriptions are so good that you just think you’re in Baltimore in 60s.

This book could be more intriguing, if only the writer had deepened a little bit of the main characters. And the main question still remaining for me is the motivation of the murders to both husband and wife? I mean why they do it? The writer could have explained it more in the final chapter where Millicent and narrater are encountered together. If any one wants a medium range psychological thriller this book is good enough to be gripped.
