The plot is exaclty what the trailers reveal, but it is only the beginning. Joaquin Phoenix is the best part of this movie showing how the Joker evolved into Heath Ledgers legendary performance. It's not an action movie but some acts come out of nowhere which goes perfectly with how the plot and movie turns out.
