This movie is based off the book.. There are alot of flash backs. The movie starts in the middle of the chronological order of the story.. If this is your first Chinese movie then you will be lost... You need to have some prior understanding of Chinese forklore to help understand why Susu is sometimes mortal and sometimes a deity.. "Ashes of Love" or "Eternal Love" are shows to watch to help understand the concepts behind this story line... I really like the visuals in this Movie.. I like seeing Yang Yang as a father in this movie and a Prince and future king..

I liked the movie.. I watched mainly because I am a fan of Kris Wu... The movie covers a time of 9 years... It felt like a time travel movie to me like "Wife of a Time Traveler" which is another movie I liked.. The way the director did the movie leaves a gap in your heart and emphasizes the gap in their social statuses and their internal struggles.. The part that upset me the most was the subtitles.. The subtitles never tell what is written in the book at the temple .. and that was the main reason she went to find him.. She couldn't forget him even though she tried... I don't think the ending was vague because he is always waiting on her... Waiting while she grieved for losing her dad, Waiting for her to finish high school examination.. Waiting for her in Beijing, Waiting at the airport, and lastly waiting for her to get out of a car in front of his home...
