In my opinion, this is a great show not just about cheerleaders trying out for a squad but about human beings, (often world class athletes with the titles to prove it) their ambitions and striving for a goal. It's about setting life priorities and how far we will go to achieve those and when they are denied us, how to accept that and move on.
One problem I have is that watching this show we are reminded of all the bad things from the 70s - this show is horribly politically incorrect. The squad is comprised of mostly white women. Women are routinely not only called in for weight gain, but have been outright cut from the squad with the only reason cited as weight gain.
The other problem I have - in my opinion - is it's not appropriate that Judy Trammell's daughter received virtually a free pass onto the squad. Very quickly in the preliminary audition process the cameras moved off this candidate even though her preliminary try outs - based on the limited camera time - appeared to be weak i.e. low kicks, flexibility issues, timing, training retention and at times attitude problems. We see other athletes called out and/or cut for these issues.
The comments above reflect strictly my personal opinion only, such opinion formed while watching the show. Any implications not clearly stated in the narrative are denied. This review is my personal opinion.
