I get the bad reviews, because most people want a simple movie with easy to follow Marvel/Pixar-like narrative without any context whatsoever. There's a lot to unpack in this movie when you understand WB was going to make this movie with or without Lana. When viewed through that lens, you can see this is a movie soaked in irony and told from an cornered artistic viewpoint. What Lana Wachowski has given us is a movie dripping with social commentary about everything from patriarchal overreach, Trans rights, gender war, Hollywood exploitation of children.
This is my favourite movie this year and probably from last year too. Give it a rewatch while keeping what I said before in mind.
Btw, Lana took back "the Red Pill" for LGBTQ+ community. I definitely see myself in the new Agent Smith.
