In my opinion this book is massively overrated. I searched for the best thriller stories but I definitely cannot call this a thriller for majority of part. First half of the book is really boring, we mainly have descriptions of what the main character is imagining, thinking, assuming. I was literally skipping whole pages and paragraphs as you can just read a first sentence to know exactly what it will be about. As theyโre not facts or donโt bring anything to the story- I was waiting for it to become interesting and surprising. This whole book could be as well reduced to the third of it and remain the same sense. Even the โplot twistโ is technically predictable- maybe not fully but we know from the first pages literally that she had written โ donโt trust Ben. Second half was definitely way more interesting and dense in new events without repeating same things and same imaginary scenarios over and over again/ as this is what first half literally is/. I definitely expected more. After reading Silent Patient and seeing this book as one of the top ones on the list- this was a disappointment and I donโt think we should judge a book by last few pages when the action finally begins.
This is more of a novel/ sad depressing story of a woman surviving memory loss and dealing with this trauma everyday than a thriller so of youโre not into long descriptions and drama - then donโt bother
