A poignant but hard-hitting film about the trauma for not just the victim of child abuse, but for her entire family. It drives home the fact that the culprit is often among close relatives, with few or no witnesses to the crime. The story is tightly knit, actors have all performed marvelously, cinematography is top class, art director's minimalist approach allows for a visual respite from the emotional tension. Music is soothing. Production values are in sync with story. Together it all speaks of an excellent film director. "The Silence" merits a 9/10.
