Whilst this picture looks gorgeous and the very good cast do a fine turn, sometimes it's only the unsubtle and intrusive score that suggests parts should be witty or amusing.
For a far superior and more enjoyable version return to the 1996 production, which really can't be bettered in cast or deft touches.
