Some of my friends thought that this film was laughable but some of my other friends and I find this to be the scariest horror film ever made. I love horror films and unfortunately horror is a genre that is corrupted with cheap films. This film is not one of those. Its examination of character and mystery go beyond horror and its lack of jump scares makes it a sophisticated film to watch. The acting is great, the music is scary, the ideas are terrifying, and the execution is near flawless. I highly recommend this film, not only as a horror film. The director's follow-up, Midsommar, is also rather intriguing, though it doesn't hit the same notes as Hereditary.
