Surprised that it was so enjoyable. No cutesy characters, fine leading lady performance and a pretty good ending.

Possibly the most egregiously bad use of music in any film I've ever seen. And the lead actress doing her acting stuff ... Oh boy.

Well, it's one thing to have a grand vision, but if you're wildly off the mark on so many fronts when it comes to execution ... plot believability, cornball relationships, misplaced humour ... Yikes. This was like some strange mashup of Apollo 13, Close Encounters, Contact ... but with none of the depth or flair of any of those movies. There were stretches of a minute or two where I thought "this bit is ok" ... only to be followed by something cringeworthy. I'm sure everybody had the best of intentions to make a grand uplifting movie.

Amazingly choreographed action sequences. As usual, the bad guys shoot badly and the good guys survive improbably, but it's a pretty fun ride. I enjoyed it.

Well, sorry ... but I thought this was a very poor man's Deep Impact, with touches of faux War of the Worlds crowd mayhem. I had no connection to the main characters. And sorry, but focusing on competent actors' facial expressions of fear/sadness/anxiety ... doesn't make up for a lack of any narrative tension. And the conveying of the progress of the disaster via background TV news reports and "viral videos" seemed just lame. Even Gerard Butler, whose roles I normally enjoy, seemed flat.

Truly appalling. Preposterous scenarios, awful dialogue, acting mainly from the block-of-wood school (with one exception). Can only think that it was an intentional loss-making enterprise, for some obscure financial reason.
