Frankly, I am a very biased judge of films. But I won't lie, I do have a soft spot for true stories, even more, when they are inspiring.
Gunjan Saxena... is an inspiration, yes, but it is also a day-to-day reality of dreaming young girls. This film was very close with my personal life.
Because when I was at the edge of ending my 12th year of school, an admission exam for the arms force had taken place in my school and I got a chance in the Airforce. I had yet to go for medical. But my family advised me to not go down the path which would be too hard, both physically and mentally.
In the end, despite dreaming to one day fly, I had reluctantly refused to attend the medical. There were other issues including my health at that moment but I knew the time would have been on my side, yet I refused to take the leap.
There was a female officer I remember, who had told me when I rejected the form, that though I was yet to be physically compatible, there was a chance for me to live my dream. When I expressed my inconvenience, she simply smiled and told me that if we give in to inconveniences, then we will never fly.
Although, in the end, I didn't follow that path. That advice stayed with me. Now I am studying to be an architect. A job that requires very much self-confidence when they break you down. But that small advice made me who I am today. So, this film was very special to me.
