I have to admit that I was concerned going into RoP as a Tolkien fan. But I was wrong, I do have some gripes and misgivings but they are minor considering the caliber of the delivery. The production quality is top tier, the costumes, cinematography, setting; they have a Tolkienesk feel and quality. Though I have my issues with short-haired elves (WTH) .
The show runners went deep, I mean deep into the lore. The appendices of LOTR were bullet points and the writers managed to flesh out a compelling story from them.
The dialogue is a bit hit or miss and not as good as LOTR trilogy but we can look past it.
I was a bit taken aback with some of the casting choices (ahen diversity ) but that doesn't hurt the story or world building. Besides Tolkien did create a world with many people and cultures so no reason to call sacrilege . Overall it's a good show, the pacing could be better and the "creative" choices and liberties that the writers have taken are one of the reasons I've taken a star away from them.
If you are a Tolkien fan and want to see how the second age was. This the show for you but don't take my word for it. Give it try!
