I'm what most people nowadays refer to as Gen Z, the only difference is I grew up watching early 90s and early 2000 movies of all genres that I came to have a deep appreciation for movies such as these.
I read a few reviews with low star ratings that deemed 'Face/Off' as "unrealistic", "terrible acting", and "90's films being the worst era of movies" and to be fair the plot is a bit dramatic and over the top but it doesn't take away from how good the film itself is.
First of all each to their own, however to call this "unrealistic" only to love movies like "The Avengers" where the whole premise is based on fictional superpowered characters is contradicting that fact (Not saying The Avengers suck I love the whole marvel franchise).
Secondly, to say it has "terrible acting" is a bit far-fetched. Not only do we see such a seamless transition when they switch characters but the little details they added to each character. On top of that Cage's constant transition between sanity and insanity really drives that final nail through the coffin. Watching a lot of movies from my generation, I find alot of the acting is far more cringeworthy compared to "terrible", than again that's just my opinion.
Lastly, the 90s made Hollywood what it is today. Actors like Cage, Travolta, Bruce Willis, Tom Hanks, Will Smith, Danny Davito, Robert De Nero, Harrison Ford, Silvester Stallone, Arnold, Jennifer Lopez, Aniston and Garner, Queen Lativa, Cameron De-az, Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, Reece Witherspoon etc are the people who brought many characters to life and many families together. I have fond and precious memories of borrowing a CD or a Blu-ray from the local library or Blockbuster store, then rushing home to watch together as a family, having set days and times of "movie night" prepped with snacks and blankets. As a foreigner to Australia, it was these movies that helped me improve my English vocabulary range...in good and bad ways. So you can call me biased too, but that to me was what the 90's movie era was.
Sorry for the rant but, if you love insanity, explosions, action, gun fights, bizarre plots and suspense...why are you wasting time reading this get straight to it.
