Oh, boy... that's a hard one. I really wanted to love this movie, I was hoping this would be the definitive RE adaptation, but unfortunately is not. It's another case of "it could've been a better movie if it was not a Resident Evil movie", just like the Milla Jovovich franchise.
The movie itself is not bad, it just doesn't reach it's full potential. You can see there is a lot of love put into this production, there's a lot of nods, easter-eggs and faithful recreation of locations and props, the score is really good and in line with the games... but that's not enough to make the movie really stand out.
The writing is weak. Almost all characters were watered down or completely changed, mostly in a unnecessary and dumb way, and the fact they combined the first two games into a single story make everything rushed and underdeveloped. As a Netflix or HBO Max series, with each season adapting one of the games, things could've been so much more engaging and fun, but as a standalone movie it just doesn't offer everything a fan expects.
At the end is just a waste of opportunity, but it's totally worth your time and if you like RE you should watch it, just don't expect nothing memorable.
