My favourite children’s book of all time, first read it at school over 40 years ago and bought two copies since, re-read it often. Very atmospheric story of two kids who team up to defy a gang of bullies in 50s London, lead by an obnoxious Teddy boy who is embarrassed because he thinks his late Dad was a florist, hence his desire to cause as much damage and disruption to the Grove as possible. Martin and Geneva have other ideas however. This would have made a fantastic movie in my opinion. A beautiful representation of times past, and the illustrations are fantastic too.

Songberd's Grove

I rewatched this film recently after a very long hiatus whilst going through a challenging personal event. I ended up watching it three times over the next couple of days. I love it. It really helped me to see what was happening in my life in a more positive way. Acting is terrific, particularly the two leads (the first time I watched it I adopted a cat shortly after and I actually named him Bud after Bud Cort). And the music...I've just got into playing a lot of Cat Stevens' early 70s stuff recently and his songs are a beautiful and integral part of the film. A wonderful film that makes you laugh, cry and at the very end, smile.
