I’m only 132 pages in to this book and I’m already fed up with it. Aside from the writing and Dimple being annoying, the representation of Indian culture is so offending. As an Indian myself in Canada, surrounded by other Indians all the time, I can assure you that none of us are like this. While there is still that shadow of arranged marriage, our parents don’t try to set us up when we’re 18! Also, none of our parents forced us to wear makeup, think about boys, and give up on careers. In fact, my parents would rather that I focus my my career instead of unimportant things like makeup. And I know not every family is like mine, but NO ONE I know is like this, even if they are still a little conservative. This book is so infuriating and the only reason I haven’t DNF’d it yet is because I want to see how worse it can get.
