I don't see how this could possibly be classified in any way as a "...comedy-drama".
We have a likable family on the brink of financial destruction, excepting their home and property, due to a gambling addiction, low wage earning jobs, and a little bad luck. They have the misfortune of having been scammed by a group of elite gamblers who convince them there is a million dollars from a 50 year old heist buried on their modest property. They own an older small, but clean and well maintained mobile home, a hand made green house full of vegetable plants, and a beautifully tended flower garden on their property on about a quarter acre of land on the down trodden outskirts of Las Vegas.
The scammers place bets on how the family will behave when they think they are sitting on a million dollars and it ends very badly for the family who ruin their property while searching for the money, uncharacteristically treat each other very poorly throughout most of the ordeal, and end up estranged and in worse shape than ever. This is a modern day tragedy rooted in greed, false hopes, and an outright disregard for the suffering of their fellow man as the scammers sit back at a distance and wager on their pathetically desperate reactions and woefully sad actions.
This was hard to watch, but very well made. The child actor who played the 12 y/o son was especially riveting in his role. 4.5 stars for this well made and acted movie, based on the sad true story. The half star I didn't give is I think it could have shown a more detailed and better ending.
