I am an avid fan of the books who was withholding judgement until the end of the season. I appreciated a lot of the updates to the story to improve the role of women. However at this point they've made enough changes that have nothing too do with those efforts that I'm going to have to truly divorce the show from the books. This is certainly no longer 'The Wheel of Time' but rather 'loosely based on the wheel of time'. In considering this as a standalone effort I still give it 3 stars. Great casting and character development aside from Matt(and not highlighting enough how badass Lan is), and overall decent enough acting. Good visuals, but the downfall was the writing; some unfortunate tropes crept in. It had trouble with pacing, and for all it's attempts to cut things down into a single 8 episode season, they dwelled much too long on unimportant things while not giving enough attention to much more impactful topics or characters.
