Its Sci-fi. Its Jim Crow America. Its Space/Time travel. Its Monsters. Its secret societies bent on controlling the world. Its just a lot. Of-course, in our everyday lives we handle more than one plot line at a time, such as getting kids to school, going to work, shopping, reading, cooking, etc... But we don't like the fact that we are overwhelmed some days. The same can be said about the multiple story lines that seem to meander between episodes at times.
The acting is good (although, why the lead needs to cry in like 80% of the episodes is beyond me. Sometimes I just think he showed up to talk to people with tears already streaming down his face. Ridiculous). Exceptional female leads in every episode. Some episodes took a while to understand. And the notion that during Jim Crow era, you are given the knowledge that you inherited the ability to do magic and you immediately do not try to use it against your aggressors during this time period is a little absurd. Sure that would be the first thing you would do. But, other than that, the acting saves this series for the time being. Episodes? Some hit, some miss, but for the most part, entertaining.
