its a decent game, it works and there is a constant upkeep of bug fixes and new packs to keep the game 'interesting'. However, compared to the rest of the sims series, the sims 4 is not much of an improvement since sims 3 (the game before it). Sims 4 misses many important opportunities to include the basics, the gameplay is nothing but bland compared to sims 3 and quite frankly the only thing going for it is the graphics. Due to the blandness of the gameplay, players rely on frequently released game packs to add to their game, which themselves become boring over time, making the game feel like a massive money grab. In my opinion, the only way for EA to earn back their positive reputation is to fix the countless amount of bugs within sims 4 and release a free game pack (should be a patch really) to make the basic gameplay actually interesting. This would include babies not being an immobile object, improving relationships, giving children/teens a purpose and more.
