Weak storyline centered on fanboy Easter eggs. The whole first episode repeats everything done wrong with the subsequent Star Wars films (notable exceptions being Rogue One and Mandolorian)- it tries too hard to explain pieces of the original trilogy whose mystery is what made them so alluring. Plus some of the weapons and creatures feel like they were borrowed from another franchise. Those guys with the shields? Thanks Power Rangers! That monster at the end? Thanks 1960s films about Hercules and the ancient Greeks! So easily avoidable.

The franchise continues to struggle with an overpopulation of unnecessary characters and the clutter of their competing screen time and vague plot lines. It takes too many leaps when a much more concise and simple story could’ve easily worked and with far more potent results.
