The crew of the ‘Salvare’ would certainly have the dubious honour of being the most useless people I have ever seen in science fiction. For such a supposedly important mission on behalf of the human race, logic dictates you would send only the best. Instead, this show presents us with a bunch of very young characters (seriously, hardly anyone above the age of what looks like thirty) who just do really, really dumb stuff at almost every opportunity. The only saving grace is that characters do end up dying in the show, and they mostly deserve it. The disasters that plague the mission mainly arise through the sheer incompetence of someone basically screwing up.
I am usually very forgiving of genre sci-fi, and I do plan to watch it to the end of the season, but since episode 4 I have been shaking my head in disbelief. I think it’s still worth watching if you have already devoured a lot of Sci-Fi and are really desperate to see something new, but just don’t expect anything anywhere near as good as the Battlestar Galactica reboot or The Expanse or Babylon 5 as far as characters and storyline. If I had to score it out of ten, I would give it a three.
