This book is an epic novel by a master of language who understands the hardships of India's caste system and delivers us an open eyed view of the culture. Using his medical knowledge, the author weaves a compelling multigenerational story of love, compassion, loss, devastation, and survival. The Covenant of Water is among the best novels I have ever read. Be prepared for a long read, over 700 pages.

Tom Hanks was great, and Mariana Trevino should win the best supporting actress, hands down. Take a hankie. You'll get emotional if you are at all a sensitive person. Ott's failed suicide attempts hint of a metaphysical intervention. The message is incredibly important for our time in a nation divided. It encourages us to look more sympathetically at our diverse neighbors.

Stunning visuals, great acting, powerful story, intense from the beginning. This movie gives us a realistic close-up look at the horrors of WW1 the trenches, filing the viewer with the senses of fear and, at once, inner strength.
