I'm a huge fan of Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, loved the first film and her appearances in other DC movies were always epic but I am hugely disappointed with WW84 and to be quite frank is a sequel I'd rather pretend didn't happen.
There are many things wrong with WW84 from it's bad VFX to ignoring the events of other DC films but a 2hr 31m Superhero flick with almost no action is ridiculous.
I'm not slating the run time as I'd rather a film be longer than too short and feel rushed but this one felt like it dragged on because of how focused it was on the romance and drama which isn't what I watch Superhero films for. There was almost no action and the few scenes that did were hilariously bad. Diana's confrontation with the two Villains (Max Lord and Cheetah) had no build up which does make some sense I suppose as there wasn't really any fight to build up to.
[SPOILERS AHEAD]
There is only one scene with Cheetah which is towards the end of the film and it was all over so quickly. The fight felt clumsy and slow and there wasn't much chance to get a good look at Cheetah transformed because the lighting is so dark and the scene is so short. Then Diana confronts Max and is defeated by a small gust of wind when she had already renounced her wish and regained her powers. Were is her incredibly fast speed gone? Am I supposed to believe this is the same Wonder Woman who defeated Aries and beheads Steppenwolf? Diana spent the duration of the film except for the first and final scenes being weak and when she was at full strength it felt like I was watching a completely different Wonder Woman to the swift and powerful Amazon Warrior I've already seen.
The characters felt to me like they were wasted, Cheetah especially, but Steve was useless throughout the film and I found it weird how Patty brought him back, very weird. Bringing him back in the first place diminishes the Sacrifice he made in the first film but to bring him back to just follow Diana around like a lost puppy before he disappears again is stupid.
The VFX should have been polished after the film was delayed 3 times, there's no excuse for it being bad when they had so much time to get it right. One example being the scene were Diana takes flight, it looks so fake and the way Diana keeps changing her position during close ups looked so cheesy!
I love both DC and Marvel for different reasons but WW84 is a good example of why Marvel are superior because they at least have a clear direction were DC doesn't. They leave that mostly to the director of each film(s) which causes there to be so much chop and change making it harder to follow what's going on. Some events that take place in their other films get ignored just like in WW84. I'd have thought DC would of got their act together by now but it seems they're still on that path to make one good movie followed by a bad one. Patty Jenkins had too much control over this sequel and I really hope that she is reigned back a bit when she returns for the third one.
