If more of the "outside world" had even a modicum of honest intention for dealing with the many things that are wrong, then perhaps this movie wouldn't hold the value that it holds for me. I am starving for encounters with honest, real people in the public eye who care and do what they can, given their own well-worn imperfections, to bring hope and compassion to what is far too cold, greedy, selfish and violent. That both of the popes have faith, if of very different types, that they have faith is important. And using that faith, they struggle mightily against what their faith causes them to see and ponder. For that alone, I find this movie like water in a dessert. The fact that they speak in complete sentences in five different languages also adds considerably to its rating. The Spanish is exquisito. What a feast for the ears and the heart. Bien hecho, fabulosa, un gran exito.
