Really a wonderful drama. I especially enjoyed the acting and also the beautiful outfits that the characters wore. Ruyi and what she personified was a strong, yet vulnerable woman in her own personal power. By the end, I wanted to look up and research what truly happened with Ruyi.
The ending was interesting, because at first the Emperor just couldn't see his own Pride and contribution to the dissolving of their love. Although, by the time he cut his hair and placed it with hers, something had shifted. This act was very touching-although I had a hard time forgiving him for all he had done throughout the years. He was cruel and self-centered so much of the time. Were most of the emperors like this? Most often, we are shaped by our environment and the current teachings and norms..
When the plum flowers bloomed nine years later, it made me think maybe their karma released. But in real life, I wonder if that ending was true or not. How would anyone know. If that was the case, this emperor was just a horrible man. In today's world, I enjoy seeing women being shown is such light. It's time for all people to self-realize equality.
