Love Ben & Erin. Love that they are making old houses liveable again. I wish they would restore more and paint less. Cannot believe she painted the custom mahogany door or the gorgeous beadboard last week. HGTV shows flip houses too fast and miss opportunities to restore and celebrate the craftsmanship and beauty of stain grade trim everywhere in old houses. Adding another layer of paint is a fast and cheap solution for TV, but never in the best interest of restoration. Stripping and pulling nails is time consuming and expensive, but gives a classic timeless look and value to older homes. Farmhouse, open shelves, and white marble are already dated “looks.” We need more restorers like Ross MacTaggart who take time to repair and restore what remuddlers have destroyed over decades of “fashionable” updates which become at best ridiculous over time, and at worst revolting and heartbreaking. We need more shows about how to properly restore, repurpose, and reuse. I love that Ben makes stuff out of the house but he rarely paints the pieces. Paint is for particleboard, not mahogany, oak, and walnut. Rant over. :)
