I was very disappointed with the Marlow Murder Mysteries. Mystery shows used to have stronger stories, and this series lacks depth. The portrayal of characters is unbalanced: all the female characters come across as kind, strong, and smart, while the male characters appear weak, racist, or incompetent. I appreciate seeing more women in lead roles, but not at the cost of quality storytelling and nuanced character development.
The lack of believable deductive reasoning is frustrating; the protagonists’ actions don’t align with what you’d expect from an intriguing mystery. The main character feels more like a meddler than a sleuth and isn’t particularly likable, yet is somehow always portrayed as smarter than the detectives. I’d love to see future efforts focused on creating compelling, engaging mysteries with realistic, well-rounded characters and plots that hold up to classic standards. Where is Miss Marpple when you need her?
