I loved the books hopefully I’ll begin to love the tv series. The problem I’ve found so far is that the story is rattling along at an horrific pace, yes there’s lots of action and it’s very entertaining but this comes at the cost of character and relationship development that are crucial to how the story unfolds. If you have read the books you’ll be aware of the depth of detail R Jordan went into not only describing in great detail the settings the clothing the characters but also all the little nuances between those characters which sadly the tv show to date seems to have thrown straight in the skip as it hurtles along at breakneck pace. I can appreciate that they want to get the story started there are 14 relatively hefty books in the series so an epic amount of story to get through, although I feel despite all of the action and and visuals to keep you entertained they have removed the soul from R Jordans epic and extremely soulful world. Again, I really hope that I enjoy the show the cast look right the sets and visuals look right (although it does suffer from that too clean look that tv shows often suffer from that GOT managed to avoid) fingers crossed they get the heart of it right
I get that Amazon want this to replace the GOT gap and the Wheel of Time has the capacity to do so, the full series of books I feel are far stronger than GOT as it doesn’t depend on the shock value to keep you entertained, instead it relies on character and political development alongside cracking story telling. So I’m keeping my fingers crossed and If you haven’t already…… go read the books you’ll be glad you did 👍
Have just finished the last episode of the season and will sadly stick with a 3 star review. 10 million an episode? Just goes to show that money doesn’t always make magic. Should have been more episodes just seems to lurch from event to event, charactor and relationship development has been left lacking in a massive way and political development is non existent. It really is a shame yes they are telling…… the story from the books but the reason I enjoyed the books is because they are far more than just a story, you really feel you know the characters and that you’re there with them you know everything about them down to every minor detail and so far I feel all of this has been cast aside as too much story is thrust at you in a very blunt way and considering who ever converted the books from page to screen have some of the best fantasy books ever written to work with it shouldn’t really be that difficult a job so to be honest Amazon I would sack them if you want the show to succeed which it really does deserve to do. Yes there’s a lot of story and there’s also loads of action to come but the most important part of the books is how person centred they are, at least try to tap in to some of that I think the story would appreciate it.
