All these reviews are weird. The family had every right to dislike Mae because she did have sinister intentions and because she lived by a strict social code, that made her dangerous when people made choices outside of her inclusion when she went dress shopping with the cool girls and left Jules, Jules worked it out in her head and let it go. But when Jules makes choices if her own she gets dangerous. The husband should have known better than to talk to Mae that way. How would Mae know officially she was at the house with them when his project burned. Also Mae is having a hard time opening up about the cult so cut her some slack, she's not the right person to ask. I'm so bored that they all didn't realize that they were being targeted from the jump. When a girl from a secret neighborhood runs from them and she's so scared she can't talk. 😴
The mom didn't consider that her teenage girls weren't in a good place in life, in their relationship, new year at school, etc. She just expects them to know how to deal with an extremely abused child who seems psychotic now because of her abused. Her children, her family... Is not trained for that. If this facility existed from the jump that's where she should have sent her. Instead she used her to lick her wounds, put her family in danger and didn't provide Mae the treatment she needed. She was aloof to Mae's misconduct and nothing bores me like a therapist who can't read the room or emotion 🙄. Mae needed empathy and the right kind of help. Teenagers and a stressed husband and an overly bubbly adopted child aren't that. Mae hurt the youngest and she didn't speak about it. Probably because she didn't want to be the adopted child who is suddenly a gate keeper. Susan failed Mae and her children. The husband is a bit emotionally underdeveloped. Because he didn't take accountability at all. And the law should do better when taking in kids. Do interviews with whole family. Just because Susan was willing doesn't mean it was the best thing for Mae and her daughters. The sad thing is, if she had not taken her in... Mae would be back at aimes and dead. We are all missing the trauma Susan put her children through. As a therapist and understanding childhood development. Also the whole cool vs uncool thing is over played in American high school drama. Unrealistic
