This is my favorite Bogie film. The plot is secondary in this film. It's the main characters who are GREAT. Hoagie Carmichael's numbers are sensational, especially HONG KONG BLUES. Walter Brennan should have won the Oscar for best supporting actor. He won three Oscars in his time. Bacall delivers the most famous line "You know how to whistle...." Dale Seymour as the bad guy is brilliant. Sheldon Leonard barely utters a word, and does it very well. Finally, the chemistry between Bogie and Bacall is terrific. This is Bacall's first film, and in my opinion, her very best. She should have quit after this one.
