I watched this one based on previous reviews here, because like them, I'd never heard of it. I know why now, of course, as they probably do but wouldn't say.
This is probably one if the best movies I've seen in years, many years. The actors are brilliant and very well known for their excellence; the writing was amazing, the sound track...I'm finding it if I have to track it down like a bloodhound.
The problem? It is about a young boy who is lost, lonely, confused within himself, becoming a penpal with a man about 30 yrs old. The problem with this movie is that if it had been released 10..maybe 15 years ago, it would be considered forward thinking. In this time of 'me too', what is a lovely, complex story about 2 lives, becomes a skate along the edge of 'that which shall be nameless', which is a shame. Watch this movie. It has depth, psychologically and emotionally; you will not be disappointed in characters, the love and anger between characters and if you are human and don't judge based on the Twitter feed of the day, will understand the depth of this movie and what it is really trying to show: intolerance kills everything if one person's dislike can twist a voice enough to make it unheard.
This is a brilliant movie, and one of the last scenes with the mother, John and his brother was so moving I cried like a baby.
