I really, truly, HATED this movie.. Not because it was a bad movie per se, but the toxicity of the movie targeted to young girls/boys is a huge issue that NEEDS to be addressed..
Why are we still letting young girls in movies fall in love and end up with the character who is bad for her, and not the character who is CLEARLY a better choice.
Hardin is the guy you date when you’re young and undeniably love for the rest of your life. He brought out a side of you that was fun and reckless, right when you needed it.
BUT LOVE ISNT ALWAYS ENOUGH. Hardin is constantly gaslighting Tessa. Stalking her. Making choices for her she inevitably goes along with. He has anger issues (throws things, destroys houses, hits people) and has a huge alcohol problem, and she still ends up with him?
Trevor is the guy you MARRY. He is the one who makes you want to be better. He has the same goals and aspirations as you, you guys can grow together and start a family, you never have to worry about Trevor.
Don’t be a Hardin, be a Trevor.
And please, for the love of all that is holy, STOP MAKING MOVIES GLAMORIZING UNHEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS BECAUSE THEY ARE “FUN”. THERE IS NOTHING FUN ABOUT BEING STUCK IN AN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP BECAUSE YOU THINK ITS LOVE.
IT ISNT.
