The only sitcom I rate higher would be “All in the Family”, not for it’s entertainment value but for it’s serious dealings with contentious issues. Big Bang is much less serious but definitely the most entertaining sitcom ever. As an engineer and enthusia st, I appreciate the intellectual level of the show, and its potential to encourage science in children and adults.
One fault “Big Bang Theory” shares with both “All in the Family” and “The Simpsons” is the excessive time spent on the blowhard main male character. Archie, Homer, and Sheldon can get really tiresome in a hurry, especially with so many other great characters around. It was a relief to see a smart Sheldon for a change in year 6, episode 8, “The 43 Peculiarity”.
