Currently re-watching the entire series due to me learning Tagalog as I study here in the Philippines. As I am looking back at the old episodes, I did quite missed out a lot from the prologue and earlier episodes. As I watched more and the episodes progresses into season two, I learned how many bad virtues are portrayed in this show.
To begin with:
- Marga is a two-faced character that probably has a very interesting character arc. She is a social media influencer, endorser and acts like the queen in her school. She has a lot of people following her on social media, but they don't realize how much of a bad person she is in person. Although she is a bully to Cassie, Marga does have some realization of what she is doing is wrong. Despite her loyalty to her three fake friends, it's clear that she won't change for the better, which I am truly surprised by her narcissistic personality. (Befriending her "friends" because of their status and financial success, wanting attention, always being top and winning class arguments, etc.) Credits to Andrea B for portraying her like that!
- Mister Kulas is also another character that is quite interesting. For one, he is a former police officer. However, he isn't really aware of the situation at hand and jump into conclusions without hesitation. He also despises his sons for coming out as gay or even just hanging out with their friends. It seems that he doesn't tolerate any type of fun in his household lol
- Daniela, played by the wonderful Dimples Romana. She is always coming up with mischief and wants to succeed through anything she plans. From the very beginning of the series, it's obvious that her hate towards Romina will continue to linger until both of them fight till the death, which is very concerning. Even though she is portrayed as the villain, her backstory is very important to consider too. For one, she believes that Romina took everything from her, even though she never intended to do that. Daniela is too glued to the past, including the loss of her mother and her father's interest in Romina. Daniela can't seem to move on or accept any of it, because she is blinded by the amount of anger she has against Romina.
All in all, Kadenang Ginto is very interesting to say the least. The characters I mentioned above are what causes this show's villain arc and how we can't let these actions slide in real life. It's drenching to deal with, but we shouldn't let this slide. Think of this show as a life lesson and not to let people control of what you want to do and just go with the flow, like what Romina and Cassie are doing.
