I gave The Force Awakens a pass as it was pretty much the first Star Wars for a new generation, but JJ Abrams gets no such credit from me for this pile of hot garbage.
I know it's been said before, but having all 3 movies made independently from each other was a HORRIBLE idea. There was no cohesive story tied between all of them. Finn and Rey had chemistry in the first movie, that Abrams himself wrote, and had nothing in the final chapter. Why? You made relationships and threw others out as if it were a day time drama episode and we're just supposed to be okay with it all?
This movie was a fan service nightmare and I'm guessing it's because he had no idea what the heck to do with Star Wars from the beginning. He made TFA and had it be a movie for a new generation, made everything bigger, better, faster, and more interesting (so-to-speak) and then crapped on all of it because he had no clue what to do next except try to throw in enough nostalgia that the older crowd will get giddy when others show up. Well, I did not. I cringed. I pointed at the screen and audibly screamed "WHY!? WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!?! THERE IS NO REASON FOR IT!!!" and I was disappointed more than I enjoyed the movie. I went in with low expectations and hated the experience overall.
Shame on you JJ Abrams! Shame on you!
