I'm from the actual Valley, and even I couldn't put up with the faux valley girl accents. Why do people insists on intentionally using vocal fry? If you have low-tolerance, you won't make it through an episode. But on a more serious note, they dragged this out for 6 episodes. The focus of the show was the decor (that's all they took into account when building this yikes), so there wasn't a need to show the whole building process if the hosts themselves don't know anything about construction. This whole thing could've been covered in 1 episode, since they did not take functionality into account. Also, I forgot where the motel is located in the middle of watching, and couldn't figure it out based on their design because it looks like the typical California midcentury-modern meets Moroccan ("boho") Urban Outfitters design. What's the point of a design show if you just slap the same Palm Springs decor onto any location?
I just realized its set in a small town in Ontario. Maybe give a show to an actual interior designer who knows how to highlight location? I'm sure its going to do well at first, attracting people who want a cute instagram backdrop. Probably not going to turn it into a tourist destination like the government was hoping since they didn't do anything to make the town seem like a fun vacation spot, instead building a little oasis to escape it. And instagram only enjoys cute backdrops for so long before it becomes old, unless its an iconic place for a popular tourist spot, like the pink wall from LA (overrated but shows people you're in LA). I'd like to see the towns tourism prosper, but that motel is definitely going to mislead people to the type of location they're vacationing in...
