It's a rough go. It's hard to get too upset about this album and it's overall release. However, after the last several albums before this, I have to say, it's a pretty big letdown. And that's hard for me to get past. Zi, in my opinion, was the pinnacle of the Trilogy, as well as being the best album from Negura Bunget since Om (in my opinion). Zi, along with Tau, are wonderfully produced albums that, although are big on production, never let the production get in the way of the sound of the music. Everything is clear as day in those albums. Which leads me right back to Zau, the ending of the trilogy, and sadly the end of Negura Bunget. This album has some fantastic atmospheres going on that might bring the best world's from the prior albums. However, the albums production is marred to death. The drums that Negru recorded before his death, are virtually nonexistent in this production. There is so much going on, so much that feels wide open, that the drums and other parts of the production just get lost. They are there, but you really have to listen for it. Although this sound may be a trademark of old black metal days where production didn't really matter much, it simply ruins the music for me. I want to hear everything in clarity with this release, but everything just gets lost in a fog of sound. It's a huge shame as I feel there is some great writing here. But it's all just lost in the poor mix.
Zi will be the last album for me. It's a perfect album. Zau feels lost without Negru.
