Iโm no hardcore gamer with huge opinions about EA or high expectations. Iโm just a person who appreciates a good game and a good challenge every now and then. Play with the expectation that itโs a $40 game that is almost 100% spent behind the windshield of a ship and youโll enjoy it (assuming you can run the game, if you play pc). The other reviews expecting this to be something that wasnโt even advertised are ridiculous.
I played with the T.Flight HOTAS One on my PC and I would highly recommend this experience to others especially if youโre iffy about the challenge or immersion. You can find this at GameStop. Make sure you go on thrustmasters website for the bindings for this game though, the game doesnโt automatically assign things properly.
The story mode is interesting and engaging, especially if youโre a Star Wars buff like myself and my husband and pick up on mentions to lore. The missions in story mode are diverse and very challenging the first time through. When you really begins to pick up all the controls, you really feel like you have options, strategy, and youโll really feel like youโre flying especially with the flight stick. Itโs the most fun Iโve had in a long time. The different ships are a blast and different enough that you can have your preferences.
My only gripe so far is that itโs so gripping and stressful (in a good way) that I can hardly relax while playing. My beer sat untouched for two hours while I white knuckled the joystick and throttle. I guess it really feels like Iโm in the middle of a space war. Also, the learning curve is extreme - maybe thatโs the HOTAS controller. I spent the first two missions spinning and crashing like an idiot. But when you start efficiently completing missions - boosting power here and there, making crazy maneuvers, repairing the hull, requesting support, commanding your group to target enemies, and nailing tie fighters with homing missiles, that learning curve is extremely rewarding.
