Other than John Kelly becoming John Clark this adaptation bears almost no resemblance to the Clancy tome. To say that the movie was based on the book is a gross misrepresentation. It is basically cinematic click bait. On its own merit it was a decent enough action thriller, but kind of meh. I understand updating it from the Viet Nam conflict era, but next time the writers should probably read the source material.
