Calling this film a 'comedy' made for really disconcerting viewing; far from comic it is a tragic and disturbing narrative of the dysfunctional relationship between two brothers. The horror that envelops their community when the sheep population are diagnosed with scrapie is felt by the viewer almost as keenly. The bleak Icelandic landscape mirrors the bleak future this small and relatively isolated community face when their livelihood is not just threatened but they themselves forced to destroy it.
