Most women would love to have children and live the very privileged life all the women appear to be living in the movie. The Lost Daughter is a white woman's narrative.
But, I dont think even many white woman can say they dont want to be mothers. This terrible narrative get pushed on every society and culture and country as if motherhood is oppressive and it's the woman's reality. Granted, there are some women who really would rather not be mothers, and wont be good mothers but this is a minority of women.
Unfortunately, the American Holywood influences how we all think whether it be true or not. The truth of the matter is, no matter how good and priviledged you have it, life is just not always satisfying. This is age old wisdom that seems to be lost in today's modern society (read Buddha and Ecclesiastes) That's why you have to teach yourself and your children self control to deal with our selfishness.
The movie lack psycological understanding of people in general. I guess the movie is artsy? This movie reflects the ideas of an over-privideged society pushing it's narrative on the entire world because these people in the Lost Daughter are so sad and unsatisfied.
