I don't recall reading the book, but I wanted to read it. I read so many things sometimes it's hard to remember everything. Especially now when we are bombarded daily with things to read or listen to. And I love that I don't need to leave my place and have access to literature from all over the world with my library card. I have listened to books for the last 15 years, and technology has made it more accessible.
I read the reviews of people who have read the book and watched the mini-series. I agree that they didn't use French actors to keep it as authentic as possible. After all, they went through the trouble of making it a mini-series utilising the location, so why would the author allow someone else not to get the details right a few more episodes as it seems Big Gaps of Time is missing in the series?
I know this is historical fiction, but
Hollywood has made so many other movies in WW2 there. Are details here that are missing? The time gap between when the Nazis invaded France to when the American troops took back control and it is not something that we should not forget. And why do Americans have to be the heroes? The heroes are those whose names aren't on the walls and who fight against tyranny and madmen's apologies. War has become a religion by itself and a reason for existence.
No matter what side you are on, you are a pawn. despensible, just another number. The madmen don't care about you. If you happen to survive and have PTSD or a limb missing, they will fight you for benefits. Freedom, what does that mean?
Americans have been the biggest producers of weapons of mass destruction, and in wars, Wars are profitable to a few madmen. Nothing has changed except the players dictating to the masses, especially in light of what's happened in the world in the last two centuries. Humans are the monsters, the references to 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. How many species have gone extinct in the previous 200 years? How many human casualties?
Since WWI, humans, despite the weapons of mass destruction, have increased our populations from 2 Billion to 8 Billion in one century. Our wars propel our technological advancements—and the men at the helm. Sci-Fi made into reality. In War of the Worlds, we as a species band together to defend our planet from Martian invasions and polluting our planet; the Earth is on Fire. So why have we as a species not learned to live with our differences in peace?
