"Beta jo log mehnat ka saath nahi chhodhte, kismat kabhi unka haath nahi chhodhti".
Gunjan Saxena – The Kargil Girl is a Solid and Inspiring Biopic based on the life of Indian Air Force pilot Gunjan Saxena the first female pilot in combat. The Story is detailed, layered, and treated in a way that is engaging and thrilling. With just 112 minutes long it packs in a lot & maintains a fine balance throughout the film.
Male domination, sexism, stereotypes, what men think of women- are all being touched upon in a flair, something that you can only admire. Whenever all these notions play on screen, they never seem overdone or plastic, they seem natural.
There are few highlighting moments:
When Gunjan's elder brother tells her in childhood that "ladkiyan pilot nahi banti", Tripathi's statement that "Kaun badtameez tumhe yeh sikha raha hai? Plane chahe ladka udaye ya ladki, usay pilot hi bolte hain" is a testament that parents need to teach right things to their sons to change the overall conservative mentality of the society towards women. Be the change you want to see.
When Jhanvi gets discouraged because of her rejection, Tripathi says "Beta jo log mehnat ka saath nahi chhodhte, kismat kabhi unka haath nahi chhodhti".
When she thinks to quit Air Force and settle down, he says "Humari bachchi apna career chhodhke paranthe banana chahti hai.. chal paranthe banate hain". "Teri shaadi ka khayal, sirf teri nahi hum dono ki haar hai...Mujhe nahi pata ki duniya kitni mushkil hai aurton ke liye! Par uska hal pinjre mei qaid ho jaana nahi hai..pinjra tod ke udd jaana hai".And that's what the father 'Pankaj Tripathi' tells his daughter 'Jhanvi Kapoor'.
I wish every parent can teach their daughter to follow her dreams rather than asking her to get married as if it's her ultimate destiny.
Manav Vij, Vineet Singh and Angad Bedi have done their parts equally good and I liked the grey shade played by Vineet.
Overall, this is a must watch movie.
