The show follows the theme of 'battle royale' that has become quite popular these days. Japan offered us Alice in Borderland and Korea presents us with Squid Game. Is it a great show? Short answer; it definitely is. There are a couple of issues that I would like to cover, but overall, the show is absolutely enjoyable and deserves your attention. The acting is on par. Every character is given room to breathe and develop. This is what makes the show fascinating; it does not skip the character moments, but revels in them. The result is a character study that presents us with many moments of introspection into the human condition. Most importantly, these are characters with flaws. None of them are perfect and this is what makes them people you can sympathize with. I have been reading the other reviews and some of the people here seem to be against the main character. To me, he was the beset part of the show. You go from despising his character to rooting for him. His arc is such a meaningful one and yes, he is flawed. But that's why you know that he is a great guy. I think people expect main characters to be the typical "good guy." But this show is proof that you can create well-developed flawed characters. Because after all, aren't we all flawed as well? We can actually see our flaws reflected in these characters. The pacing of the show is well done. There is nary a dull moment. Even the last episode (not giving out spoilers) slows things down, but it is done really well and gives much depth to the story. Of course, there is also the question of the games themselves. After all, this is a battle royale show. Let me tell you; the games are intense. I had a case of sweaty palms during one game. They keep you on the edge of your seat. Some of them are highly emotional as well. My only issue is that there are a couple of subplots that took more screen time than required. Although this isn't exactly a deal-breaker. In fact, chances are that you are not going to notice them at all. Also, a bit of plot armor that sometimes makes you question certain events. I don't watch a lot of tv series. But this one is an absolute gem. Cannot wait for Season 2.

If you enjoyed the first film (like I did), then you will definitely love this one. The actors were impressive, the most noteworthy being Ha Jung-woo (as always). However, do not let that distract for the other performances. Each of the actors brings life to their characters. Regarding the characters, the guardians have been fully fleshed out, making each one memorable. I found the first film lacking that and while the guardians were each unique, they were rather forgettable. This movie ups the ante. The comedic scenes were fun, though not exactly "roll on the floor" funny. The action sequences were well done and the visual effects were pretty impressive. Overall, if you think that, like all sequels, this one does not live up to the mark established by the first movie, then you have nothing to worry about. This movie is unique, fun, and an excellent sequel.

Fairly lighthearted movie. Something to pass the time when you have nothing else to watch. Would not place it on a recommended list.
