Dune is my most engaging cinematic experience since watching Christopher Nolan's Inception in 2010.
I was lucky enough to have watched Dune at iMax. This is great because iMax really brings out the movie's strengths; from the out of this world visuals, engrossing sound design and unforgettable score by Mr Zimmer, this is a movie worth the price of admission to go watch on the most giant screen that is available to you.
This is another unforgettable movie experience created by Denis Villeneuve. It's probably his best film, for me. Considering the highly detailed source material, this is no mean feat.
The only two faults I can give Dune are:
1. It was hard to hear the dialogue from the characters in some parts. Luckily the film does an excellent job of telling its story visually, so missing these pieces of dialogue doesn't detract from your ability to understand what is going on.
2. This is a film that is quite serious. What I mean by that is that there is a lack of levity throughout. Perhaps there may have been 3 parts in the film where I slightly cracked a smile. While I know that this is primarily due to the source material, injecting a little more fun would have been a positive thing from my perspective.
Overall, these two points don't detract from my high score. Ultimately, despite those two points, I still left the cinema mesmerised and whole-heartedly impressed with the cinematic experience.
