The premise had so much potential. It's genuinely so sad and disappointing to see the end product this thoroughly butchered. The idea of the monster being not social media itself, but the paranoia associated with it's danger. And like all paranoia, it's a vicious cycle. It breeds fear and fear in turn fuels paranoia, thus only making the monster stronger. And what greater fear exists, that that of a parent for their child. This is genius. There is a wonderful story to be told here, a story about the acceptance of danger, the respect for independence, the wonders of honest communication. This movie is not that story.
The plot is paced horribly. It's just a garbage script through and through. The characters might just possibly be the worst written characters in horror history. Nowhere is this more prominent that in the ending. The dad just does a complete 180 from his characterization throughout the film, starts cosplaying Mike Myers for a while for some reason and then just becomes a totally different character from a totally different film in the final seconds before the film ends. There was also some random shoehorned stuff about ASMR, which was completely unnecessary and didn't make too much sense anyway. It's like the writer, halfway through writing the script, saw ASMR on their youtube recommendation and said to themselves, "Hey, this is neat. I should put it in my movie." Smh 🤦. And who decided on casting the actress for the lead?? They would have got better acting out of a literal brick. Her face the entire movie was just frozen on one look. A combination of 😕 and 😟. These emojis express more emotion.
Not worth your time guys. Huge thumbs down from me 👎.
