This is an insightful, imaginative movie that provides a window to autism, drug addiction, mental illness, loneliness, and the power of human connections. The characters in this needed actors who could vividly tell their stories with emotion and heart. Those who are best equipped to tell the story are not necessarily those who have the shared experiences. “Music” didn’t need to be an autistic performer; she needed an authentic, honest, and talented performer which Maggie richly delivered. Kate Hudson is not a drug addict nor is Leslie Odom, Jr. Ugandan yet they were believable and incredible. “Music” isn’t a movie that will suit everyone’s taste - it was never meant to be.
