If The force awakens was a copy of A New Hope, Ryan Johnson's take on Star Wars is somewhat new but throws aways the lore of previous films. It's not re-watch able by any measure. What it does well is the visuals and they are stunning. What it does poorly, is a lot. Let's start with the opening sequence, lone fighter Poe Dameron decides to contact General Hux but decides to use childish humour to prank the General. Poe proceeds to destroy the start destroyers canons however the ships defenses are useless against a lone fighter. Really! Than they're is a slow attack of bombers that can merely be wiped out by a few shots or just one tie fighter wiping out several ships by crashing into one. We get introduced to an unknown pilot who seemingly can survive in outer space without gear. She is killed however is the lone bomber to make it through the firefight and destroy a dreadnought. It is revealed she is related to another character in the story later on, Rose. The visuals of the bombing sequence was amazing. The rebels, which makes no sense why they are called rebels, are on the run. The First Order that was defeated in TFA now are stronger than ever. Poe gets demoted for his actions as many of fighters lost their lives. Introduce Purple haired nobody cares about character called Admiral Holdo. Some hero of some sort.. No one remembers. Meanwhile Luke tosses his old light sabre for cheap joke number 2 and as a metaphor for throwing away the previous lore of star wars. Luke is pathetic old man that left a map in TFA to his location in case he may be needed again but apparently he lied as Jedi do. He is no longer connected to the force cause he hates himself. He does not train Rey but rather tells her why the force is all a lie. She however still proves herself to be a good learner without training. Anyway, there's more to this horror story too wow about but the movie is forgettable and the story is at best a movie on its own with no tie in to previous Star Wars or any care for the what came before or how this will be closed off in the others. If was probably done as a 'in your face' attack on the fans. Those that liked it, well theres no accounting for taste. I tried to watch it again to see if I was biased but put it off within the first five minutes.
