To me this is Death of Superman in Eternia, but instead of 4 Supermen, there is 1 "superwoman" and some other hangers on. Is there some female centric empowering and some perceived male bashing and downplaying. Sure, you can't not see it. BUT it's called "Masters of the Universe" not He-Man so the focus is on all the characters and SOMEONE has to be the focus while He-Man is not around.
So who should it be? Old man Man-at-Arms? Orko? Fisto? The next in line is Teela and in 2021 it makes sense from a marketing and storytelling perspective. That's not my problem with it at all. In fact, a strong woman/women is/are sexy.
My problem is that the motivation is flawed and the motive is laughable. She was lied to. YEAH BUT WHY - HE WAS HE-MAN!! Jeeze. I know that secret identity/lie thing is played out, again going back to Superman and Lois, but still it comes off as whiny and selfish and more as a brat that a strong warrior with a warriors code who would/should have understood doing anything to protect Eternia, including lie about being He-Man. HE SAVED HER LIFE DOZENS OF TIMES. Oh you lied, I hate you.
Also her voice does not fit the character model at all.
Randor also went too far out of character punishing Man-at-Arms. That was silly and misplaced.
I could go on, but not having He-Man isn't a deal breaker, I don't feel assaulted as a man watching this show, I don't feel like my childhood is ruined because of it, great animation and character models, glad to see all the characters of the past getting included and looking forward to the back 5 to see how this ends.
Plus, isn't there another actual He-Man focused series coming to Netflix next year anyway?
